  • Founders' Scholarship
    April 15
    Sponsor: American Atheists

    Eligibility: Applicants must be high school seniors or college students who are Atheists, have a minimum 2.5 GPA and be student activists. The award is based on the level of activism and requires a 500- to 1,000-word essay. In addition to the scholarship, the winner will receive a free trip to the American Atheists National Convention.

  • Michael Hakeem Memorial College Essay Contest
    July 1
    Sponsor: Freedom from Religion Foundation

    Eligibility: Applicants must write a four- to five-page essay on the provided topic. Recent topic choices have been, "Why I am an atheist/agnostic/unbeliever," "Growing up a freethinker" or "Rejecting religion." More details about the topic are available online.

    How to apply: There is no application form. In addition to the essay, applicants must submit a one-paragraph biography and should not include a resume.
