    Eligibility: Applicants must be undergraduates, U.S. citizens and be enrolled in a U.S. college. Study in Japan must be for at least three months and take place during the academic year (summer programs are not eligible). Students must submit a letter of recommendation and an essay on their interest in studying in Japan.

  • Grant for Seminars on Teaching about Japan

    Eligibility: Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Students must provide a detailed description of their proposed seminar, how the results will be made available and a detailed budget on how the funds will be utilized.

  • Northeast Asia Council (NEAC) Japan Studies Grant

    Sponsor: Association for Asian Studies

    Eligibility: Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents or institutions located within the U.S. Approved travel research or workshop organization will be reimbursed within 30-60 days of project completion. Projects must be completed within one year of the award. Grants are awarded for research travel, workshops or seminars within the U.S. or short-term research travel to Japan. Graduate students must provide a letter of recommendation. Applicants are strongly encouraged to apply for other sources of funding.

  • Short-term Travel to Japan for Professional Purposes Grant
    Up to $5,000
    October 1 (fall); February 1 (spring)
    Sponsor: Association for Asian Studies

    Eligibility: Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and be members of the Association for Asian Studies. Students must be actively researching Japan. Graduate students are required to provide a letter of recommendation. Applicants must not have acquired funds from this grant within the past five years.
