    Eligibility: Applicants must be age 21 or older. They must be able to work in the U.S. legally. Professional writing experience is not necessary, but applicants must have strong spec script writing skills. Selection is based on the overall strength of the application.

  • Julianne Malveaux Scholarship
    March 1
    Sponsor: National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women's Clubs Inc.

    Eligibility: Applicants must be enrolled as sophomores or juniors at an accredited college or university and have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Students may major in related fields such as public policy or creative writing.

  • Playwright Discovery Award
    February 1
    Sponsor: John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts

    Eligibility: Applicants must be students in grades 6-12. Applicants are to create an original one-act script of less than 40 pages that documents the experience of living with a disability. Applicants themselves need not be disabled, but the script must address the issue. Selected scripts will be performed for middle school, high school and adult audiences. First and second place winners will have their plays performed at the JFK Performing Arts Center.

  • Summer Graduate Research Fellowships
    $5,000 stipend + travel and housing allowance
    Sponsor: Institute for Humane Studies at George Mason University

    Eligibility: Applicants must be graduate students in areas related to the classical liberal tradition and should be focusing on a discrete writing project. Selection is based on resume, GRE or LSAT scores and graduate transcripts, writing sample and research proposal and bibliography for thesis chapter or publishable paper.
