Alumni Referral or Child of Alumni

Montreat College is proud to offer $4,000 scholarships to the following new applicants: a) a student whose parent is an alumnus of the college or b) a student who was referred to Montreat College by a former student. This scholarship is awarded over a four-year time period in $1,000 annual increments. To be eligible, applicants must answer “Yes” to the “former student child / referral” question in the Financial Aid Opportunities section of our free application for admission, and submit a letter from the former student verifying their alumni status. Referrals from current Montreat College employees are not eligible for this scholarship.

Band: Orchestra & Pep

Church-Matching Grant

Montreat College invites churches to partner with us to help their youth secure the resources they need in order to finance their education at a Christian College. Our institution will match up to $1,000 in church contributions per year. Please download our Church-Matching Grant form for complete details and instructions.

COMPASS Scholarship

COMPASS is a week-long summer immersion program for high school students and rising college freshmen who would like to explore an academic field of interest with college-level instructors and get a taste of the college experience. Cybersecurity

Montreat College offers $8,000 stackable scholarships for new students interested in studying cybersecurity. This scholarship is awarded over a four-year time period in $2,000 annual increments if the student maintains eligibility requirements.

Requirements for eligibility:

  • Must be a new or transfer student
  • Must be accepted to the Cybersecurity Program at Montreat College

Application Materials

  • Essay: Write a two- to four-page double-spaced response to the following prompt in APA format. 1) Describe a recent cyber attack in the news. What aspects were handled well by the victim company? What mistakes were made before or after the cyber attack? Cite your sources. 2) Why do you want to pursue a Cybersecurity major at Montreat College? 3) What qualities and interests would you bring to the Cybersecurity program at Montreat College? 4) Describe the importance of ethics and morals in the field of Cybersecurity. 5) How would you personally approach the study and practice of this field given the talents and gifts God has given you?
  • Recommendation Letters: Submit two recommendation letters from non-family members. One recommendation letter should speak to your personal qualities and character. One recommendation letter should speak to your academic ability. For students also applying to the Honors Program, these letters can count toward the Honors recommendation letter requirement as well.

Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC) Scholarship

Montreat College is endorsed by the Mid-Atlantic Presbytery. Our institution offers $10,000 scholarships to accepted students who are members of an Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC). This scholarship is awarded over a four-year time period in $2,500 annual increments. To be eligible, students must answer “Yes” to the EPC question in the Financial Aid Opportunities section of our free application for admission, and submit a letter from their church verifying their membership or their parent/guardian membership.

Homeschool Scholarship

Montreat College now offers $10,000 scholarships to homeschool students! This scholarship is awarded over a four-year time period in $2,500 annual increments, and is available to First-Time students who were homeschooled during 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th grade. To be eligible, students must answer “Yes” to the homeschool question in the Financial Aid Opportunities section of our free application for admission, and submit an official homeschool transcript as part of their application file. Honors Scholarship

As part of our commitment to intellectual inquiry, Montreat College will award 35 scholarships to new Fall 2024 students in the Honors Program including two full-tuition awards! The deadline to apply is January 15, 2024 by 11:59 p.m., and Scholars Day participation is required. For complete information, visit www.montreat.edu/honors.

Korean Christian Heritage Scholarship

The Korean Christian Heritage Scholarship is a $52,800 institutional award available to Honors-eligible students who are Korean citizens, Korean Americans, or descendants of Korean missionaries. This stackable scholarship is distributed in annual increments of $13,200, renewable over a four-year period. Minister’s or Pastor’s Child

Montreat College offers $4,000 scholarships to applicants who are the dependent children of ordained practicing church ministers or pastors. This scholarship is awarded over a four-year time period in $1,000 annual increments. To be eligible, applicants must answer “Yes” to the “child of minister or pastor” question in the Financial Aid Opportunities section of our free application for admission, and submit a letter from their church verifying their parent’s or guardian’s minister or pastor status.

Outdoor Recreation Studies

The Wetzel-Hagaman Awards were established at Montreat College to prepare the next generation of Christian outdoor leaders and educators. Penny Hagaman and Jake Wetzel invested their lives in many Montreat students over the years. The Outdoor Recreation Studies Department established this award in their honor (see below).

  • Amount: Awards are for $2000 each ($1000 each semester) for incoming majors in Outdoor Recreation Studies. Awards are only for the freshman/first year of study at Montreat College.
  • Application criteria: An application form and essay are required for each applicant.
  • Due date: The deadline for all applications and essays is April 1, 2024.

Sibling Discount

Montreat College will award a $4,000 discount to new students who are enrolled at the same time as their sibling. Both siblings must be enrolled as full-time traditional students in the School of Arts and Sciences. This discount will be applied in annual increments of $1,000 per year for up to four years.

Golden LEAF Scholarship

First-year and new transfer students planning to attend Montreat College are encouraged to apply for a $14,000 scholarship from the Golden LEAF Foundation. This scholarship is awarded over a four-year time period in $3,500 annual increments. North Carolina students from 81 out of the state’s 100 counties are eligible to apply if financial need is demonstrated. Visit the CFNC Website for more information, and apply by the March 1 deadline. A FAFSA is required for consideration; be sure to designate Montreat College as a school of interest.

NSCA Criminal Justice Scholarship

New students planning to attend Montreat College to study Criminal Justice are encouraged to apply for an $8,000 scholarship from the NC Sheriff’s Association. This renewable scholarship is awarded in $2,000 annual increments. Read more about this scholarship.

NCASFAA Benefiting Students Scholarship

The mission of the North Carolina Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NCASFAA) is to provide training and professional development opportunities to the financial aid community and advocate on behalf of financial aid professionals. One scholarship (up to $2,000) is awarded annually to a graduating high school senior, another scholarship (up to $2,000) is awarded to a continuing college student. To apply, students need to create a video answering questions asked in the NCASFAA application. The deadline to apply is March 22, 2024.

Keystone Scholarship

The Keystone Scholarship is available to traditional undergraduate students at Montreat College, and it is comprised of several endowed scholarships and our annual Keystone Scholarship fund. This scholarship award varies in amount, is limited, and is awarded to the earliest committed students, based on need and availability. If issued this award, students must complete the following by July 15th (fall enrollment):

• Complete a FAFSA or FAFSA waiver and verification (all students)

• Complete all required Student Financial Service documents (all students)

• Submit final, official transcripts to Montreat College, in sealed official envelope (new students)

Athletic Scholarships

Montreat College awards athletic scholarships to varsity athletes based on talent, character, roster needs, and academic merit. These scholarships may be combined with some other grants or scholarships, but cannot be combined with merit scholarships.

Merit Scholarships

Montreat College offers merit scholarships to students based on academic achievement. These premier scholarships may be combined with a few other grants or scholarships but cannot be combined with athletic scholarships. These awards are based on an academic index that includes final GPA and a standardized test score: Academic Index is calculated by the following formula: (Unweighted GPA x 10) + (SAT x .0375). As a test-optional institution, we can award these on a GPA index as well. The following values are based on full-time, residential students:

For First-Time Freshmen

The Trustee Scholarship is awarded to students with an Academic Index* of 84 and greater. Financial value:

  • Residential students: $13,000/year (four-year value: $52,000)
  • Commuter students: $6,500/year (four-year value: $26,000)

The Presidential Scholarship is awarded to students with an Academic Index* between 77.00-83.99. Financial value:

  • Residential students: $12,000/year (four-year value: $48,000)
  • Commuter students: $6,000/year (four-year value: $24,000)

The Provost Scholarship is awarded to students with an Academic Index* between 69.00-76.99. Financial value:

  • Residential students: $11,000/year (four-year value: $44,000)
  • Commuter students: $5,500/year (four-year value: $22,000)

The Anderson Scholarship is awarded to students with an Academic Index* below 69. Financial value:

  • Residential students: $10,000/year (four-year value: $40,000)
  • Commuter students: $5,000/year (four-year value: $20,000)

*Academic Index is calculated by the following formula: (Unweighted GPA x 10) + (SAT x .0375)

For Transfer Students

The Bell Scholarship is awarded to transfer students with a cumulative college GPA of 3.50 and above. Financial value:

  • Residential students: $13,000/year
  • Commuter students: $6,500 per year

The Gate Scholarship is awarded to transfer students with a cumulative college GPA between 3.49-3.00. Financial value:

  • Residential students: $12,000/year
  • Commuter students: $6,000/year

The Howerton Scholarship is awarded to transfer students with a cumulative college GPA below 3.00. Financial value:

  • Residential students: $11,000/year
  • Commuter students: $5,500/year

North Carolina Need-Based Scholarship (NCNBS)

This scholarship is restricted to students with financial need. Eligibility is determined by the NC State Educational Assistance Authority, and awards are based entirely on the FAFSA form—you must file the FAFSA to be eligible.
