Scholarships and Grants

Scholarships

Choosing which college to attend can be one of the biggest decisions a person can make. When a student is looking for colleges to attend, studies show one of the first things they look for is how much it will cost. Scholarships and grants are a few ways to help reduce the total cost of attendance for students.

A list of scholarships for incoming new students at Kettering College are listed in the dropdown menus below. There are additional scholarships for returning students as well.

Kettering College’s merit-based scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis and are not guaranteed.

How do I apply for scholarships?

All students admitted into a program are eligible, but check with financial aid to verify no additional documents are required.

Grants

Grants are considered gift aid and do not have to be repaid.  Most grants are based on some type of need-based eligibility.  Therefore, you must complete the FAFSA to apply for most grants. Sources of grants include federal, state, private, and institutional funds.  The availability of grants is generally limited to need-based students. For more information about grants and other types of financial aid, read The Student Guide.

    • Federal Pell Grant

Federal Pell Grants are awarded based upon the analysis of your FAFSA, cost of attendance, and enrollment status (full or part time).  They are awarded to undergraduate students who have not earned a bachelor’s or professional degree.
The U.S. Department of Education uses a standardized formula, established by Congress (called the Federal Needs Analysis Methodology), to evaluate the information you report on the FAFSA.  The formula produces an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) number.  The EFC number can range from zero to 99,999 or higher.  Your Student Aid Report contains this number and will indicate if you are eligible for a Pell Grant.

    • Ohio College Opportunity Grant (OCOG)

The Ohio College Opportunity Grant Program (OCOG) provides need-based tuition assistance to Ohio students from low to moderate-income families.  Awards are based upon EFC (Expected Family Contribution).  Your family’s EFC must be 2,190 or lower and you must be enrolled at least half-time (6 hours) to be considered for the OCOG.  You can apply by completing the FAFSA by October 1 of each year.
For additional information regarding Ohio’s state grant and scholarship programs, please visit the Ohio Department of Higher Education.  For more information on grant and/or aid from other states, please visit the National Association of State Grant & Aid Programs website.

    • Choose Ohio First Grant

Choose Ohio First is part of Ohio’s strategic effort to bolster the state in the global marketplace of Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medicine (STEMM). COF awards scholarship funding to selected Ohio colleges and universities to support undergraduate and qualifying graduate students in innovative academic programs. This need-based aid will grant qualifying nursing students with $3,000.00 in tuition per year ($1000 per semester).
