Scholarships and grants are financial aid awards that do not have to be repaid. The most common sources of gift aid include:

New York Tech Scholarships

Through the generosity of trustees, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends, New York Tech provides a variety of academic scholarships and grants awarded to undergraduate and graduate U.S. and international students on the basis of academic achievement or high scholastic potential. If you have been awarded an institutional scholarship, it will appear in your acceptance package and will also be included in your financial aid package.

New York State offers a variety of scholarship programs for state residents based on financial need, academic excellence, areas of study, and military service.

Federal Pell Grant

A need-based grant awarded by the federal government to low-income students pursuing a first bachelor's degree and to certain post-baccalaureate programs leading to teacher certification or licensure. Pell Grants are administered on a year-round basis, including summer terms provided the student meets all eligibility requirements. The maximum award changes yearly. Please keep in mind that if New York Tech receives notification from the U.S. Department of Education that a Federal Pell Grant applicant has reached, or is close to the lifetime maximum award, New York Tech will notify you and adjust all awards as necessary.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)

This is awarded to undergraduate students who demonstrate the greatest financial need–students with the lowest Expected Family Contribution (EFC). Federal Pell Grant recipients receive priority consideration for FSEOG awards.

Private Scholarships

Thousands of scholarships and grants are available through private local, regional, and national sources including your high school, employers, corporations, service organizations, religious organizations, and more. Consult the list of scholarships, suggested by New York Tech, which are sortable by school, program, and general scholarships. You'll need to promptly report any scholarships or grants you receive from sources outside of NYIT to the Office of Financial Aid.

Public Sector Scholarships

New York Tech offers children of active duty police officers, firefighters, EMT, and K–12 teachers in the tri-state area public sector scholarships worth up to 50% off undergraduate tuition and free application for admission. We also offer discounted tuition to actively employed corrections officers, police and auxiliary police officers, and sheriffs. Find out more.

Graduate Assistantships

New York Tech offers a number of graduate assistantships to students enrolled in our graduate degree programs that provide partial or total tuition remission in exchange for a specific number of hours of service to your department per week.

Yellow Ribbon Program

The Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program is a provision of the Post-9/11 Veterans Education Assistance Act of 2008. The program provides for an agreement between New York Tech and the Veteran Administration to award a limited number of scholarships to qualified VA students to fund tuition and fees that exceed benefits available under the Post 9/11 GI Bill® (Chapter 33). Under the agreement VA will match New York Tech's scholarship contribution.

Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grant (IASG)

The Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grant objective is to provide eligible veteran's dependent undergraduate postsecondary students with non-need-based grant assistance to help meet educational expenses. Students must complete a "Free Application for Federal Student Aid" and submits it to the processing agency specified on the form. The Department of Education calculates the student's financial eligibility for assistance and returns a notification to the student of his or her eligibility for assistance. The student submits this notification to the institution of his or her choice in order to have his or her award calculated. Adult Career and Continuing Education Services - Vocational Rehabilitation (ACCESS - VR) (Formerly VESID)

The mission of Adult Career and Continuing Education Services - Vocational Rehabilitation (ACCESS - VR) is to promote educational equity and excellence for students with disabilities while ensuring that they receive the rights and protection to which they are entitled; assure appropriate continuity between the child and adult services systems; and provide the highest quality vocational, rehabilitation, and independent living services to all eligible persons as quickly as those services are required to enable them to work and live independent, self-directed lives.

Debra A. Vogel Student Advancement Scholarship

The Debra A. Vogel Student Advancement Scholarship is designed to inspire New York Tech students to embrace their entrepreneurial spirit and become engaged in the global business community while they continue their studies by providing a foundation of financial assistance and encouragement to become future international industry leaders through their innovation, ideas, and passion. The scholarships are open to all full- and part-time New York Tech undergraduate and graduate students and are awarded bi-annually, in three categories. A minimum of one to a maximum of ten scholarship awards will be awarded each year. Find out more.
