SCHOLARSHIPS

Making an investment in the education of our next generation of leaders provides a return that reverberates throughout not only our region, but throughout our entire country. Students today are under incredible pressure to further their studies and be ready to contribute in the workplace immediately upon graduation. This is occurring at a time when the costs associated  with earning that education continue to increase year after year.

Donors with the Community Foundation can help relieve a portion of this burden and increase the chances of a student’s success. Whether it’s helping a local high school senior in the memory of a loved one or providing scholarship dollars directly to an alma mater, many donors find great joy in investing in our region’s next generation of leaders by helping to lighten their load with regard to affording a college education. Funds within the Community Foundation of Western PA & Eastern OH currently offer more than 200 scholarships throughout our region.

Most donors look to help graduating high school seniors that are going to be continuing their education at the post secondary level. Selection criteria can range from choosing students that are graduating from a specific high school to a student's love of playing music. Many times it comes down to a student exhibiting virtues that remind a family of a loved one.

I will never forget the area and city that I grew up in. I know what it is like to grow up in poverty with a single mother. I know what it is like to be a first generation college student. Having the blessing of receiving this scholarship the past 4 years has been unbelievable. I will never be able to thank you enough for the opportunity you have given me. Your generous donation has helped to keep me on track to graduate with no student debt. I promise that your investment will not go to waste. I will always give back to the community that has given me so much.”
