Scholarships, like grants, are free money. There are many different types of scholarships available. Students are encouraged to apply for multiple scholarships. Following is a list of scholarships for your review. Most have deadlines, so apply early!

UH Common Scholarship Application:
- Prepare a personal statement and any required essays ahead of time. You may then retype or copy/paste them into your application.
- Find 2-3 people to write a letter of recommendation. Their email address is required.
- Order the necessary transcripts if applicable
Start your application early and do it in segments
- It is never too early to start!
- We recommend completing the application first. This typically takes less than an hour to complete.
- Browse through additional essays. Fewer students apply for these, giving those who do a better chance!
A security feature causes the application to time out after 30 minutes, so save your application often!

Description: This scholarship is available to first-year students who start school in Fall and have been referred to Wai'ale'ale due to financial constraints or other barriers. The Wai'ale'ale Project is a special program funded by generous donors and community foundations. This program gives eligible Kaua'i and Ni'ihau residents an opportunity to take classes at Kaua'i Community College for "free." The Wai'ale'ale Project offers scholarships and academic support to participants who would like to take a few classes or complete an entire academic program to receive Certificates an Associate Degrees. The Hawai'i Promise, funded by the State of Hawai'i, provides scholarships to qualified new, continuing and transfer students pursuing a degree at one of the UH Community Colleges. UH Community Colleges are committed to meeting 100% of tuition costs for qualified students from Hawai'i.
Student eligibility:
- Must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- Must be a State of Hawai'i resident.
- Must be enrolled in 6 or more credits per semester at a UH Community College during the Fall or Spring semesters.
- Must have unmet tuition need. *
- Must be degree-seeking in a financial aid eligible program.
- Must not possess a bachelor's degree.
- Must be meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress (2.0 grade point average & 67% completion rate).
*Unmet tuition need is based on the cost of tuition, information from a student's (FAFSA), and other aid received. One hundred percent of students' unmet tuition need is met through a combination of federal grants (if applicable), other scholarships, and Hawai'i Promise.
Hawai'i Promise awards will be adjusted if unmet needs change.
Hawai'i Promise will be awarded based on the availability of funds.
Hawai'i Promise provides financial assistance to help meet the direct educational costs. Students may be eligible up to the amount of the total cost of UH direct costs including tuition, books, supplies and a standard transportation allowance.

Description: The first year of college is critical because it forms a foundation for each student's success. At Kaua'i Community College, we help students by providing a variety of support services and resources in preparation for their first year. HAWAIIAN SCHOLARSHIPS

Description: This tuition and book assistance is awarded each semester through your local Alu Like office. For more information, please contact the Kaua'i Office at the information listed below.

Description: Unlike most scholarships, this scholarship is awarded each semester. The Hana Lima Scholarship Program (HLSP) provides financial assistance to students participating in a vocational or technical education program for occupations that can provide a “living wage.” This scholarship is available to students in vocational programs that lead to a specific segment of employment. This scholarship gives financial assistance toward tuition and fees, books and other required tools or uniforms for a vocational program

Description: The Nā Hoʻokama a Pauahi Program (NHAP) is a need-based scholarship available to students pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree at an accredited post-high institution in the United States recognized by Kamehameha Schools (KS).

Description: The Pauahi Foundation administers scholarships that have been created by private donors. The Foundation awards scholarships supporting college level areas of study, as well as trade and vocational courses. Many awards may be determined based on merit, while some are restricted to those students who demonstrate a financial need or for students applying from specific geographic regions.

Description: The purpose of the Scholarship Program is to inspire academic achievement and to facilitate Hawaiians in their quest to attain higher levels of education, thus improving the representation of Hawaiians at post-secondary schools and equipping them with the academic tools necessary to improve their economic welfare.

Description: At the core of our mission is the vision of our patron, Prince Kūhiō, for the upward mobility of the Hawaiian people through education. With this in mind, we make a commitment to fund scholarship recipients for their two or four years of higher education, provided that transcripts are submitted on a timely basis and that the recipient re-applies for each succeeding year until graduating.
