Over $75,000 In Scholarships Will Be Awarded In 2024
For 30 years, Georgia United Foundation has offered annual scholarships to high school seniors planning to attend college or technical school. This year we are thrilled to increase our impact by introducing several new opportunities for not only high school seniors, but also undergraduate upperclassmen and certified educators seeking an advanced degree.
We are currently reviewing applications for our high school and educator scholarship opportunities. Scholarship recipients will be notified and announced in March. Stay tuned.

Scholarships For High School Seniors
Named for the credit union's founder and notable board members, the program offers an opportunity for high school seniors to showcase their scholastic achievements and creativity through a video competition. This year a total of $17,500 will be awarded to 12 students. Each scholarship will be split evenly among two recipients.
- Vernon E. Carne Scholarship for $5,000
- Geraldine Tilson Scholarship for $2,500
- Polly Hinde Scholarship for $2,500
- Dorothy Dusenberry Pirkle Scholarship for $2,500
- Monsignor Stephen Churchwell Scholarship for $2,500
- T. Randall Dennis Scholarship for $2,500

Scholarships for Educators
Frank Thach Scholarship
Established in 1958 to serve educators, Georgia United Credit Union continues to honor our commitment to public school educators in Georgia through the Frank Thach Scholarship. The scholarship empowers deserving educators to continue their education. We will award 10 educators $500 each, totaling $5,000.
We will be awarding certified educators teaching at a Georgia public school and enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing an advanced teaching or education degree.
The application period has now closed. Announcements will be made in March!
Additional Scholarship Opportunities
Georgia United Foundation also awards scholarships to members of the community through local schools and organizations.
Dr. Jim Williams Scholarship for $5,000
This scholarship honors Georgia United’s first African American board member, Dr. Jim Williams. Applicants must be enrolled as a full-time sophomore or junior at an accredited historically black college or university during the 2023 - 2024 school year. Applications will be accepted through the African-American Credit Union Coalition during the spring. Check back for more details, coming soon!
Tom Dickson Scholarship for $5,000
This scholarship honors Georgia United's board chairman, Tom Dickson, as well as the Hispanic/Latino community and first-generation students in his hometown of Dalton, Georgia. In 2024, one or more upperclassmen enrolled in the C. Lamar and Ann Wright School of Business at Dalton State College will be chosen for this opportunity. More information will be available soon!
