Scholarships & Awards

The Longmont Community Foundation currently offers several scholarship programs which are described below.  If you have questions about any of the scholarship programs or wish to help us create more scholarship opportunities, please contact the Longmont Community Foundation at 303-678-6555.

  • Ascend St. Vrain Scholarship

    Ascend St. Vrain is a scholarship for St. Vrain Valley High School or BOCE seniors OR current college / trade students who graduated from a SVVSD high school or BOCES. Students must plan to attend or currently attend college or trade school in Colorado. Students must demonstrate unmet financial need if awarded as provided by their planned or attending institution. Ascend St. Vrain helps alleviate the debt that many students incur to attend post-secondary schools.  Multiple renewable scholarships will be awarded.

    In addition, The Braly Family Foundation will fund one, $2500 renewable scholarship with a preference to trade applicants.

  • American Association of University Women – Longmont Branch Scholarship

    The AAUW strives to break through educational and economic barriers so that all women have an equal chance. Through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research, AAUW advances equity for women and girls. The purpose of this scholarship program is to provide scholarships to encourage women to pursue higher education in order to increase their ability to have a positive impact in their field and community, including women returning to school to update their knowledge/skills.

    At least one scholarship will be awarded for $1,000 each year.  Applicants must be women who:

    1. At the time of application, have received a high school diploma, completed at least 30 college credit hours, and have a cumulative college grade point average of at least 3.0;
    2. Are currently working towards an undergraduate degree, graduate degree, or certificate at an accredited two-year or four-year college or university in the United States (full-time or part-time);
    3. Are pursuing a career that promotes equity for women and girls, education, health, and/or in fields in which women are currently underrepresented;
    4. Are able to apply the funds awarded to their education within 12 months of the award date;
    5. Match at least one of the following:

    – Graduated from a St. Vrain Valley School District High School
    – Currently reside within the St. Vrain Valley School District
    Other information:

    • Prior recipients of the AAUW Longmont Scholarship are eligible to re-apply.
    • The program does not provide funding for CEUs, CLUs, or other similar courses required for state licensing renewal or salary advancement.
    • Scholarships may be used for tuition and fees only. Award amounts may be used toward one semester/term or split between semesters/terms.

  • Arapahoe Pass Scholarship - Public High Schools in Boulder County

    Arapahoe Pass is a renewable scholarship for up to $12,000 a year for a graduate or graduating senior from a public high school in Boulder County, Colorado. Applicant must be under the age of 30 at the time of application. Neither of the applicant’s parents are college or university graduates. The renewable scholarship must be used at an accredited Public Colorado institution, junior college, community college, college or university.

  • Braly SOCO Any Athlete Scholarship - Branson or Las Animas School, Colorado

    This scholarship was created to honor the life of The Braly Family Foundation’s founder, Henry Braly. Henry was a lineman at Longmont High School in the 1950’s and continued to play in college. The Braly Family Foundation would like to support senior students in athletics at Branson School or Las Animas School in Colorado. A one-time $5,000 scholarship will be awarded in Henry’s memory.  Minimum GPA 2.5 to apply.

  • The Braly Geneva UNC Teaching Scholarship Fund

    This Scholarship is to honor Geneva Smithlin, sister of Henry Braly, the founder of The Braly Family Foundation. Geneva graduated from
    UNC, (Formally Known as Colorado State College), with a teaching degree in 1963. The Braly Geneva UNC Teaching Scholarship Fund will provide a one-time $5,000 scholarship to a current student seeking a bachelor’s degree in teaching at the University of Northern Colorado.

    DEADLINE IS Feb 1st, 2024

    To be eligible, applicants must:

    1.  Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in teaching at UNC
    2.  Be enrolled as a full-time student (12 minimum credit hours for undergrad) at UNC
    3. Have completed at least 30 college credit hours at the time of application
    4. Have a cumulative college minimum GPA of 3.0
    5. If needed, finalists will be selected to submit a short 2-3 minute finalist video for final selection

  • Catherine C. Owen Scholarship

    This one-time scholarship is in memory of Catherine C. Owen of Mead, a former teacher who was passionate about the education of the next generation. It is awarded to one graduating senior of a St. Vrain Valley School District high school that will be attending the University of Northern Colorado or a Christian college or University in the U.S. who has financial need starting this fall.

  • David and Rose Macy Scholarship - Colorado State University

    The David and Rose Macy Scholarship Fund was established by David and Rose Macy. One renewable scholarship for $5000 will be awarded to an applicant. To be eligible, applicants must:

    1. Be a U.S. Citizen.  Students in undergraduate school must be a resident of Colorado or Wyoming.  Graduate students do not need to be residents of Colorado or Wyoming
    2. Be a full-time sophomore, junior, senior or a graduate student majoring in one of the 3 departments in the College of Agriculture Sciences, i.e. Soil and Crop Science, Animal Science and/or Agricultural and Resource Economics
    3. Have and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.80 or better (based on a 4.0 scale)
    4. File a FAFSA and provide EFC (estimated family contribution).  Students who are Pell Grant Eligible are not eligible to apply
    5. Applicants must disclose other scholarships that have been received or applied for

    Note: This Scholarship may be renewed for up to two additional years if the applicant meets the renewable criteria.

  • The Davies Scholarship - Graduates of SVVSD

    NEW IN 2022/2023

    This is a $1000 renewable scholarship.  This scholarship was created to encourage students to pursue careers in STEM or education.

    The Davies Scholarship is for St Vrain Valley High School  GRADUATES who are currently attending an accredited COLORADO University / College. Applicants must be pursuing degrees in science, engineering or education, completed at least 15 credit hours, minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and demonstrate unmet financial need.

  • Dr. Jack and Margaret Beynon Memorial Scholarship - Frederick High School
    This one-time scholarship will be awarded for at least $2,000 for an athlete applicant who is an outstanding senior with a GPA of 3.0 or higher at Frederick High School who will be attending an accredited Colorado college or university starting this fall.

  • GP Memorial Lyons Athlete Scholarship

    This scholarship is to honor the Braly Family Foundation’s founder, Henry.  Henry Braly was many things, but his best attribute was being a grandfather, aka ‘GP’.  Three of the Braly grandkids (PDK) looked up to Henry and shared many beloved memories with him as they grew up and as adults.  PDK, each graduated from Lyons Middle/High School.  A $5,000 one-time scholarship will be awarded in Henry’s memory.  Must be a graduating athlete from Lyons Middle/High School with a minimum GPA of 2.5 to apply.

  • HB 49 Longmont Football Scholarship - Longmont High School

    This scholarship was created to honor the life of The Braly Family Foundation’s founder, Henry Braly. Henry was a lineman at Longmont High School in the 1950’s and continued to play in college. His kids, Shari and Kevin Braly, are also graduates of Longmont High School. His football number was 49 so a one-time $4,900 scholarship will be awarded in Henry’s memory. Must be a graduating senior football player from Longmont High School with a minimum GPA of 2.5 to apply.

  • Jared Sekich Scholarship- Roosevelt or Mead High School

    This one-time scholarship for $2,000 is in loving memory of Jared Nicholas Sekich. Jared was a student at Roosevelt High School in Johnstown, an active member of the Roosevelt Future Farmer’s Association of American (FFA), a FFA sentinel and a member of the basketball team. This scholarship will be awarded to a student who attends either Roosevelt High School or Mead High School wishing to pursue the agricultural field by either attending a vocational/trade school, 2 year to 4 year college/university this fall.

  • Joey Irwin Scholarship - Frederick High School

    This Scholarship Fund was created to honor the life of Joey Irwin who passed away suddenly on April 17, 2017. A native of the Carbon Valley, Joey attended Frederick schools and graduated from Frederick High school in 1992. Joey was an incredibly skilled Master plumber in the community. He lived and breathed his work and thought of most clients as family.  Joey was most at home in the outdoors, he was an avid and accomplished huntsman and fisherman.  He loved teaching all of his nieces and nephews to fish. Joey also enjoyed sports, rooting on the home teams and playing golf. Joey spent most of his time with family and was often referred to as the favorite uncle. Joey had a zest for life and a heart of gold. He truly would give the shirt off his back to help anyone in any situation.

    This scholarship provides a one-time scholarship up to $10,000 to Frederick High School Seniors who wish to pursue trade or vocational occupations in order to increase their ability to have a positive impact in their field and community.  Minimum GPA 2.50 

    Applicants are required to upload their transcript, answer five short answer questions and submit a 2-3 minute video in their online application.

  • Madeline Marie Molzahn Sherrod Memorial Scholarship

    This scholarship was established by Dale Sherrod and his children in memory of Madeline, his wife and their mother. Two renewable scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors with financial need who plan to enroll in a four year accredited college/university.  One of the scholarships requires the student graduate from the St. Vrain Valley School District (SVVSD) in Colorado and the other scholarship requires the student graduate from the St. Vrain Valley School District OR the public school districts of Ainsworth, Hay Springs, or Wood River, Nebraska.

  • Mark Martinez Scholarship - Frederick High School

    This Scholarship Fund was created to honor the life of Mark Martinez who passed away suddenly on April 17, 2017.  A native of the Carbon Valley, Mark attended Frederick schools and graduated from Frederick High school in 1992. Mark was employed by the Town of Firestone and made his home in the community. Mark felt at home in the outdoors, he found tranquility in camping, hunting, fishing, and sports. He also enjoyed music, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. Mark loved to entertain and make people laugh with his charismatic personality. Most of all Mark loved his family. He was a devoted husband and doting father. There truly wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do to make them happy. Mark enjoyed all aspects of life and definitely left his mark on all he came in contact with.

    This scholarship provides a one-time scholarship up to $10,000 to Frederick High School Seniors who wish to pursue a four year college degreeMinimum GPA 2.50 with no F’s on transcript.

    Applicants are required to upload their transcript, answer five short answer questions and submit a 2-3 minute video in their online application.

  • Mead Area Trades and Vocational Scholarship -Mead High School or Mead Resident

    Mead Area Trades and Vocational scholarship is a $1,000, one-time (non-renewable) scholarship to Mead High School Seniors or Mead Graduates who wish to pursue trade or vocational occupations in order to increase their ability to have a positive impact in their field and community.

    Eligibility Requirements

    Applicants must be a graduating senior from Mead High School and/or a resident of Mead and plan to pursue a trade or vocational career – can include vocational training school, 2 year community college or trade training.

  • Page and Elizabeth Jenkins Scholarship - University of Wyoming

    This Scholarship Fund was created by Rose T. Macy in loving memory and to honor the legacy her parents, Page T. and Elizabeth Jenkins. This scholarship is a tribute to Page Jenkins’ love of geology and his professional dedication as well as honoring Elizabeth Jenkins’ support for Page’s career. The Page and Elizabeth Scholarship Fund will provide a $5,000 renewable scholarship for up to three students.

    Eligibility Requirements – Applicants must

    1. Be a U.S. Citizen
    2. Be full time sophomore, junior, senior or graduate student at the University of Wyoming in the Department of Geology or Geophysics OR in The School of Energy Resources major of Energy Resource Management and Development in either the concentration of Professional Land Management OR Energy and Environmental Systems.
    3. Have and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better (based on a 4.0 scale)
    4. File a FAFSA and provide unmet financial need.

    Note: This Scholarship may be renewed for up to two additional years if the applicant meets the renewable criteria

  • Sara Thompson Magical Mermaid Scholarship

    *NEW 2024*

    The Sara Thompson Magical Mermaid Scholarship is given in honor of Sara Thompson, a fabulous high femme, a warrior for the community, and a fierce friend. Sara believed in the power of all people to create opportunities from difficulties and often lent her strength to those who needed it most. To continue her legacy, this scholarship is intended to lend strength through monetary support to LGBTQ+ community members of all ages, whether in school or not, to support their ongoing efforts to create positive change in their own lives or the lives of others.

    Multiple awards ranging from $500 to $5000

    Eligibility Requirements – Applicants must

    1. Self-identify with the LGBTQ+ Community
    2. Currently attend a Colorado High School OR be enrolled or admitted to a Colorado Institution for Higher Education OR lived in Colorado for at least two years.
    3. Used for personal growth/development OR higher education purposes.

    Note:  For personal development or personal growth the grant’s purpose MUST be to achieve a specific objective, produce a report or similar product, or improve or enhance a literary, artistic, musical, scientific, teaching, or similar capacity, skill, or talent.

    Application includes plans and goals, essays, and letter of recommendation.

  • Stewart Golden Music Scholarship

    This scholarship was established in memory of Stewart Golden to celebrate his love of music and enable others to study voice, piano or organ.  A one-time,$1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a high school senior graduating from the St. Vrain Valley School District OR student enrolled in a Colorado university or college who graduated from a St Vrain Valley High School who plans OR is studying voice, and/or piano, and/or organ and/or music education.  Applicants must attend a four-year accredited Colorado university or Colorado college with a strong music program.

  • St. Vrain Nursing Scholarship - Current Undergraduate or Graduate Students

    The focus of the St.Vrain Nursing Scholarship is to support those in pursuit of a nursing degree or subspecialty of nursing degree.  In order to be eligible, the applicant must meet the following criteria:

    • Student was a graduate of a St. Vrain Valley High School or is a current resident in the St Vrain Valley School District
    • Student has unmet need which is demonstrated by financial aid package letter
    • Student is currently enrolled at or admitted to an accredited nursing degree program in the United States.
    • This scholarship is available to undergraduate and graduate students pursuing a nursing degree or any subspecialty of nursing.

    Scholarship funds can be used for tuition, housing or clinical needs to support the recipient in pursuit of their nursing or subspecialty of nursing degree

  • St.Vrain Habitat for Humanity Scholarship

    This scholarship is a $5000 renewable scholarship.  The purpose of the scholarship is to provide a scholarship to someone seeking higher education with the purpose of improving employment opportunities.  Applicants must have been or is currently a Habitat for Humanity St. Vrain Valley homeowner or immediate family member (i.e. spouse or child).  It is for any year, full-time student to be used at any accredited junior college, college, or university for the purpose of improving employment opportunities.
