We are proud to offer two scholarships each year. Our fundraising efforts center around funding these scholarships to ensure that two people from Bedford (Town or County) will benefit from our hard work.

Both of these scholarships require letters of recommendation from several different sources as well as a transcript of grades and test scores. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Please make sure to follow all directions and see that letters of recommendation are included in your packet before mailing to our chairperson. Applications will not be accepted after the stated deadlines on the scholarship applications.

****DEADLINE EXTENDED TO MAY 1, 2024****

The first scholarship is the Alice Mahone Scholarship, a $2000.00 scholarship given to a graduating senior – either male or female – from one of the three Bedford County Public High Schools. This award is given each year in memory of Alice Mahone, a past president of Bedford BPW and was started by her husband, with the initial scholarship being $100.00.

It is given based on financial need, class rank and extra curricular activities, as well as the desire to further education. High school counselors are given the application information to be distributed or made available to students.

The winner is determined by a group of three BPW members who read over applications, discuss the attributes of the applicants and make a final choice. A member of the committee makes the presentation at the student’s Senior Awards Program or at a BPW membership meeting.
