Do I have to take both the SAT and ACT?

QUESTION: Do I have to take both the SAT and ACT to apply to colleges, or just one or the other? How do I find out which to take? Signed, Tests Galore

Dear Tests Galore: We don't know of many students who voluntarily elect to take more tests than they have to. The SAT and ACT are no exception. The great majority of students take only one of the tests, and most colleges accept either. Make sure this is true for the schools to which you are applying by checking the admission requirements. Then take practice tests for both, and choose the one on which you think you will perform better.
