SCHOLARSHIPS

Every year, the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) awards several need-based scholarships to students for their college studies. The awards are based on academic performance, community development work, and other similar factors. The online application process is run through Award Spring, and the ISNA Scholarships Committee makes the final selections.

General Eligibility for Application (See specific criteria for each scholarship in their description)

  • Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • You must be enrolled in a US accredited college/university
  • Muslim students actively engaged in the community development work

We are unable to provide any other funding or scholarships outside the scope of the listed scholarships on this page.

2024 SCHOLARSHIPS

Dr. Abdulmunim A. Shakir Scholarship

Given his strong belief in the value education, Dr. Shakir arranged for a scholarship fund to be established to support freshmen students in their first year of higher education

  • # of scholarships: 20
  • Each Award: $1000 Each 
  • Any Field of Study

Plainfield Muslim Women for Better Society Scholarship

Two scholarships will be awarded to the Plainfield, Indiana High School Seniors and Indianapolis, Indiana Islamic High School Seniors who meet the below criteria.

  • # of scholarships: 2
  • Each Award: $ 500
  • Area of Study: High School
  • Unweighted GPA: 3.5 and above
  • Minimum 20 hours of community service
  • Two letters of recommendation; one from your high school counselor and one from a community leader
  • Student must demonstrate a previous history in helping other students (e.g. mentoring a student, or standing up against bullying)

The Hajja Razia Sharif Sheikh Scholarship

The Islamic Society of North America is pleased to have been selected by Dr. Hamid Sheikh to host a scholarship endowment in Islamic Studies and/ or Journalism in the name of his mother Hajja Razia Sharif Sheikh.

  • # of scholarships: 2
  • Each Award: $1500 Each
  • Area of Study: Islamic Studies or Journalism

Amana Mutual Funds Scholarship

Amana Mutual Funds endeavors to align investments with principles. They follow a value-oriented approach consistent with Islamic finance principles. Providing this scholarship through the Islamic Society of North America, allows AMANA Mutual Funds to continue to build upon its principles and provide further support for the American Muslim community.

  • Area of Study: Finance, Economics, or Mathematics
