Minority Fellowship Program

The Minority Fellowship Program (MFP) supports students of color in pursuit of a doctoral degree in sociology. MFP seeks to attract talented doctoral students to ensure that a diverse and highly-trained workforce is available to assume leadership roles and conduct research that is relevant to today’s society.

ASA Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Grants

The ASA DDRIG program supports theoretically grounded empirical investigations to advance understanding of fundamental social processes. Funding for this program has been granted by the National Science Foundation.

Student Forum Travel Awards

Approximately 45 awards are available for student participants in the ASA Annual Meeting to defray the cost of travel.

Student Forum Paper Award

The Student Forum Advisory Board selects one student paper that was submitted to the Student Forum Paper Sessions for that year’s ASA Annual Meeting for the Student Forum Paper Award.

Annual Meeting Travel Fund Awards

Annual Meeting Travel Fund awards are designed to help offset some of the costs associated with the Annual Meeting for sociologists who would otherwise find it difficult to attend.

Howery Teaching Enhancement Fund Grants

The Carla B. Howery Teaching Enhancement Fund provides small grants to support projects that advance the scholarship of teaching and learning within the discipline of sociology.

Community Action Research Initiative Grants (CARI)

The Community Action Research Initiative grants support projects that bring social science knowledge and methods to bear in addressing community-based problems.

Sorokin Lecture Grants

These grants provide funding to host a winner of an ASA-wide award from the past two calendar years to deliver a lecture at a state, regional, or aligned sociological association meeting or on an academic campus.
