How to Get Into & Pay for College

SuperCollege

How far back in history can I go when applying for scholarships?

QUESTION: I thought that I put together a great resume in high school, but I didn't get as much financial help I would have liked. Can I still refer to my past experiences in high school when I apply for scholarships when I'm in college? Signed, A Strong Past

Dear A Strong Past: Your achievements don’t have an expiration date, but they do get less fresh with age. In other words, it is appropriate to include high school accomplishments when you apply for awards during your freshman or even perhaps during your sophomore year of college. As you progress to your junior and senior years and graduate, your high school accolades carry less weight.

Because of your strong high school record, we suspect that you will also make significant contributions in college. Begin to use these to replace your less significant accomplishments in high school.
